We provide a range of skillfuly created Rocking Horses including new models, antique rocking horses, restorations, and specially commissioned custom rocking horses.
Skilled carvers lovingly sculpt each individual rocking horse with a mallet and chisel. Detailed features such as facial expressions and of bone and muscle, which are detailed by hand, all add to the individual character and feel of each horse. All our painted rocking horses are then coated with gesso, a mixture of rabbit skin glue and gilder’s whiting. This technique protects the wood and makes it become slightly flexible, permitting its natural movement.
The artistic finishing of the rocking horse is the final piece of the jigsaw. The artist hand paints the rocking horse, skilfully applying paint in subtle layers. Shades, texture and dapple are worked gently into the rocking horse body to accentuate the natural curves and muscles. This ensures that every rocking horse is unique.
